ABRSM Year 2009

sms message from Raymond - Congratulations and Praise God. Michael and Michelle both achieved distinctions for their recent practical exams. Michelle 136 (Grade 7) and Michael 134 (Grade 8).

All our playing repertoire scored high marks of 27 and 28, out of 30. Michelle scored 18 & 19 for scales and sight reading respectively while Michael was a tad lower. We did well eh.

Michael's third piece, Gershwin's The Man I Love scored an impressive 29 marks. "The Man I Love" is a popular standard, with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by his brother Ira. Originally part of the 1927 score for the Gershwin antiwar musical satire Strike Up the Band, the song was removed from the 1930 version of the show, and, as with many standards of the era, has become more famous as an independent popular song than as one from a Broadway musical.
