Yamaha Grade 5 Fundamentals Results

A message from Yamaha - both of us passed our Yamaha Grade 5 Fundamentals. Yahoo, congratulations to us for passing, for all our hard work and the practices. Scores were 446/500 & 414/500. The exam itself was held at Digital Music Academy on 10 June 2009 (scroll down for earlier comments). Ben and YT passed as well. Teacher Ricky was overjoyed at the class results.

We are now working towards the Piano Performance Grade 5 where the emphasis is on improvisation (variation & motif) , sight reading and repertoire (2 compulsory pieces and 3 free selection). This section will be tougher, as Yamaha classifies Grade 5 and above as Teacher Grades. See website at http://www.yamaha-mf.or.jp/english/syllabus/information.html

In a way, we are looking forward to this very much because of their preference of sight reading and playing the repertoire rather than the demands of the G5 Fundamentals. Improvisation will be a good challenge to further improve our skills in this area.
