I just came to know that DS Endon wrote this book on the Straits Chinese costume - the nyonya kebaya. For me, i was drawn to this culture when i first set my eyes on the video entitled The Little Nyonya, introduced to us by aunty Lean when she was back in Aug 2009. Now i am beginning to understand the intrigues of the culture, the food and the lifestyle of my great grandma. Looking at these from a different perspective and thus, my first bite of the kuih rempah udang brings a new dimension to nyonya kueh. And there's the ang koo, onde onde, even the popular kueh talam is nyonya or straits chinese kueh. Go google nyonya kueh and you will find some interesting recipes and articles on them. So, it is not surprising that i chose to wear nyonya kebaya to SGGS today. Yes, nyonya kebaya to school. And it was such an interesting day when all the students and some teachers each wore the variety of traditional dresses to school for our Integrasi Day (RIMUP) with the baju kurung being the most popular. Nevertheless, the spectrum of colours from the display of our dresses brightened up the entire school atmosphere.
