Just as i was getting ready to jump into bed at 10.30PM, dad called out from the living room 'Mike, let's go'. My reaction was Where? GC's place, came the reply - oh yeah, i remembered that dad was enquiring from him about a new cello bow and the cost of re-hair the old bow.
So we made our way there within 10 minutes or so, gave GC the old bow for re-hair and picked up the 2 new bows for testing, each costing RM800. Yeah, pretty expensive eh. Shall check with teacher L on friday as to which one to buy.
An interesting article:
There are four characteristics that determine the "personality" of each bow: weight, balance, strength, and flexibility. Heavier bows require more effort to change direction and to do string crossings (ie. more inertia). Lighter bows are more maneuverable, but require more effort to produce a sustained forte. So you might use a heavier bow when playing concertos, and a lighter bow for more intimate works with lots of intricate bowings such as in the Bach Cello Suites.
